Meet Our Team

Shawn Rasmussen, LIMHP, is an outpatient therapist at Heartland Counseling Services. She began working at Heartland professionally in 2020 and started her internship with the agency in 2021, serving simultaneously as both a team member and intern. During that time, she gained experience within the Life Center, crisis response, and community support programs, building a strong foundation in supporting individuals across varying levels of care.

From 2022 to 2023, Shawn served as a school-based therapist, partnering closely with students and families. In 2023, she transitioned into the outpatient clinic in South Sioux City, where she continues to provide therapy services.

Shawn earned her master’s degree from Bellevue University and brings a thoughtful, integrative approach to her work. Her therapeutic style is tailored to each client’s unique needs and draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused techniques. She specializes in grief therapy, an area she feels deeply connected to due to significant personal experiences with loss. She strives to create a compassionate and supportive space where clients can process grief, build resilience, and move toward healing.

Outside of her professional work, Shawn enjoys a full and meaningful personal life. She has a husband, two adult children, and two beloved fur babies. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, crafting, photography, spending time in nature, and making memories with her family.
