Heartland Counseling Services Completes Safety & Security Enhancement Project Thanks To Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program

South Sioux City, NE – Heartland Counseling Services, Inc. is proud to announce the successful completion of a facility safety and security enhancement project funded by an $8,000 grant from the Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program. This initiative has helped Heartland make meaningful progress in creating a safer, more inclusive environment for clients and staff.
The grant supported a comprehensive security site assessment conducted by Ultimate Security Consulting, LLC, along with targeted safety trainings for staff. The assessment identified 18 key areas for improvement, and Heartland has already taken action—or developed a plan—to address each one.
“We’re grateful to Union Pacific for investing in our mission,” said Jennifer Jividen Jackson, Executive Director. “This project has led to practical changes—like improved signage and expanded collaboration with law enforcement—as well as systemic upgrades, including a new threat incident reporting system, the development of a workplace violence policy, and more.”
While some recommendations require further research and additional funding, Heartland is actively pursuing future grants to support enhanced technology, upgraded camera systems, and improved accessibility features such as safer parking lot design and handicap-accessible sidewalks.
This project reflects Heartland’s ongoing commitment to safety, equity, and the well-being of all those we serve.
